Triple Heater, Embryology and the Extraordinary Vessels
in conversation with Carola Beresford-Cooke
I had a fascinating discussion with Carola in which we explored the development of the Triple Heater (Sanjiao) while we are in the womb. The Triple Heater is an interesting meridian, because it is the only one of the 12 which is not related to a specific organ, for example like lung or large intestine. This makes it harder to “pin down” its development.
If you would like to watch the video, here is the link, but below I share the highlights.
We would love to hear your thoughts too, as you may have other perspectives which are relevant. Please share them in the comments and also please ask any questions.
We explore:
The relationships between Triple Heater and
the Kidneys
the Girdle Vessel (Dai Mai)
the Yin and Yang Linking Vessels (Yin and Yang Wei Mai0
Gastrulation – or the creation of 3 germ cell layers at 3 weeks post conception
See if you can spot one of my cats, Coco, who joins us briefly!!
We talk about a book which also mentions embryological development - “Muscles and Meridians: The Manipulation of Shape” by Phillip Beach and also the work of Gil Hedly, whose YouTube channel, “somanaut” is about exploring our body.
Carola Beresford Cook is well known in the shiatsu world as she wrote the main book (Shiatsu therapy and practice) which is used worldwide in shiatsu trainings. Before she wrote it, shiatsu practitioners had to, like me, glean theory from a Japanese teacher (Masunaga) or from acupuncture texts. This video came about because Carola asked me to share my thoughts on how the Triple Heater may have developed in the womb for the students of her online course on the 12 meridians which she is teaching for NewEnergyWork , an online learning platform created by Cliff Andrews.
