The transformative nature of the menopause
and the role of Traditional Chinese medicine and Qi Gung
I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
I thought I would let you know that I have just posted a video on TCM (Traditional Chinese medicine) and the menopause. I talk with Clarissa Kristjansson (PhD in neuroscience and certified in acupressure, Qi Gung and mindfulness) about the positive and transformative nature of menopause and the important role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). I love Clarissa’s encouraging and respectful approach.
We talk about how much TCM can offer. It is a many faceted approach, which includes diet, breath, touch, movement and core posture to “treat” the whole person rather than simply their menopausal symptoms so they can find their way to live a more healthy and fulfilling life.
Clarissa is an internationally recognized menopause educator. Her recently published book “Beyond Hormones” is based on her successful podcast “Thriving thru Menopause” in which she interviews experts on different aspects of the menopause. She has distilled the most important and inspiring information in her book. Its seven chapters cover mental and emotional wellbeing, diet, physical activity, sleep and sexual health. She includes lots of practical tips as well as helping us understand the many changes which accompany us as we pass into the second half of our lives. I love her encouraging approach. She recognizes that we are each unique and wants to help us thrive through our menopausal years so we can thrive for the rest of our lives.
Clarissa was first introduced to Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) 33 years ago when she did an acupressure course in Northampton. She didn’t take it up professionally but used it on friends and family while pursuing a corporate career. She moved to Australia with her young son but when she entered the perimenopause she had an accident and hurt her shoulder. This led her to seek out acupuncture treatment and her therapist introduced her to Qi Gung. Inspired by the TCM approach, she studied Qi Gung and mindfulness and started working in this field, 7 years ago after leaving the corporate world.
