In April, I wrote about the power of shiatsu and unconditional loving touch and said that I would film a video about how you can experience this touch as an adult.
Unconditional Loving Touch
Imagine being wrapped in a warm hug, gathered in and reassured whenever you need. You can always be held and loved unconditionally. Perhaps you need a hug because you’re feeling upset about the way that someone has treated you. Perhaps you feel anxious for no obvious reason and you just want to feel loved.
I have now released this video which you can watch on my YouTube channel. This is a deeply nurturing practice inspired by the safety and containment of the womb.
The aim of this touch is to support a sense of safety and containment and so it is important that you feel comfortable with all the areas included. It can help you accept your body and come into peace with who you are. It calms the nervous system. In today’s stimulating world this is essential. It can also help to repattern the nature of your relationship with your mother. As well as all this it helps strengthen your midline of the Extraordinary Governing and Conception Vessels.
To experience this touch you need to find two people you can practice with. If you can’t then you can view my video on how to do this touch for yourself.
I have developed this idea of “foundation” or “womb” touch from my work with babies. It mimics the enveloping touch you received from being surrounded by your mother’s womb during the first nine months of your life. After birth, hopefully your mother continued to embrace and hold you, like the womb, until you felt safe enough to explore the world around you. Mothers after birth can also benefit from this foundation touch as they need to gather back into themselves after having opened up to birth. Practices such as wrapping cloths or rebozos around the body support this, but I love the power of direct enveloping touch.
This “womb” touch includes your whole body and supports the order of how you developed in the womb and during your first year. It begins with supporting the midline: Governing and Conception Vessels, which includes your chakras. Core organs along your midline are your brain, heart, kidneys and palace (or reproductive organs). Your midline includes potentially sensitive areas, such as breasts for women, and around your pubic bone, so decide how much touch you want here. It can be off the body touch.
You can view my video on off the body touch if you are not sure how to do this.
From the midline the foundation touch moves out into your shoulders and hips and then through your arms and legs to your hands and feet. This is also the energetic movement away from the midline into your limbs which is known as the Macrocosmic Orbit. You might want to watch my visualisation of this.
You can choose whether to lie on your front or you back or both. The video shows both options. The broad enveloping touch includes the idea of the mother hand and child hand. See my short video for more on this:

Sadly, not all babies or mothers receive this loving touch after birth. Yet, whatever your experience of loving touch as a baby, you can access it now. It offers an opportunity to recreate a stable and secure foundation from which you can repattern and heal much within your life. You cannot change the past but you can change your relationship to it and transform your present. Life is not a straight line but a spiralling pathway.
If you want to read more about this idea of the Cycles of Life and how we can change our present moment, I have a free download on my website.
Please visit here to access it and I’d love to have your feedback on what you think of it. This is the material of my new book on the Cycles of Life and the Extraordinary Vessels.
