I have put up a new video of a conversation I had during spring time, with Kate Codrington, author of “Second Spring” about the process of creativity. We begin with the void, unknown, and journeying through the seasons of our life.
I had to include this wonderful picture by an amazing artist called Fiona Owen, who used to live in a beautiful chapel near Stroud but has now moved to Cornwall. I have a print of this picture as I love its expression of the seasons. To find out more about Fiona’s work, please visit her website
Kate has studied with me, Pregnancy massage, as well as attending several of my residential courses. She has also studied with Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Wurlitzer of the “Red School” who see the seasons in some ways like in Chinese medicine but with their perspective. I find that there are many overlaps, although there are some differences. They talk about the winter as the void, the place of unknown. In Chinese medicine, although it may feel empty, lots of hidden activity is happening. It is time of rest, hibernation and going inward. Alexandra and Sjanie see autumn as expressing our truth through our sword. This is fascinating as the Chinese attribute metal as being the element of autumn.
Kate feels that perhaps what is most important in how we nourish ourselves is to find what gives us pleasure. If we are in the menopause and have already developed our own tool kit of resources then it is not going to change that much. Things that have already worked for us, will probably continue to work.
At one point, Kate asks me about the void time around conception and I wanted to include a short quote from a Wordsworth poem, which in the moment, I was not able to remember. Here is the quote.
Wordsworth poem is “Ode on Intimations of Immortality”
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar:
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home:
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
I hope you enjoy our conversation and I look forward to your feedback.
